Articles
It will include the results of original research, which may be theoretical, simulated or experimental. The proposed objectives and the results obtained or expected must be clearly stated, as well as their originality. With a maximum length of 5,500 words including abstract and references, it will contain a maximum of 40 bibliographical references, with figures or tables appropriate to the dimensions and length of a printed publication. The research can be basic or applied, the latter being preferable. If it is basic, at least the possible practical use of its conclusions must be proposed.
Special ISSUE: NEW PROCESSES AND TOOLS FOR INTELLIGENT MANUFACTURING (Nov.2025)
Guest editors:
- Dr Luis Norberto López de Lacalle, University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU.
- Dr Amaia Calleja, University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU.
Today, manufacturing technologies and digital production are undergoing a rapid and transformative evolution. This momentum is driven by the emergence of new production processes, the expansion of digital services and the growing influence of artificial intelligence in industrial environments. Technologies such as advanced machine tools, additive manufacturing, high-precision control and inspection systems, unconventional manufacturing techniques and intelligent machining are at the forefront of this transformation.
This special issue aims to explore how these advances are reshaping the manufacturing landscape, enabling more efficient, flexible and sustainable production systems. The intersection of AI and manufacturing is particularly promising, as it breaks new ground in automation, predictive maintenance, process optimisation and design.
By promoting these innovations, we can help ensure that production remains competitive in our countries, while supporting the transition to more sustainable and digitally integrated industrial ecosystems.
Key topics may include (but are not limited to):
- Advances in machine tools and machining strategies.
- Additive manufacturing and hybrid processes.
- Process optimisation and AI-based decision making.
- Intelligent quality control and inspection technologies.
- Sustainability in manufacturing.
- Machining. New approaches.
- Unconventional and energy-efficient manufacturing techniques.
- Digital twins and simulation-based production planning.
- Integration of IoT and cyber-physical systems in production.
