History

How was DYNA born?

At that time being on 6th of November 1924, the Board of the Association of Industrial Engineering of Bilbao, with knowledge that the Guipuzcoan Manufacturers League, whose president was then our colleague D. Alfonso Churruca, had planned to edit a magazine, one of the members of Directive launched the idea that, within this publication, our Association could work in any section. This was the starting point of DYNA Magazine. The directors knew that it was much more convenient, instead of receiving the proposal, that the Association was that which edited its own publication, and, at that same meeting, it was agreed to study and examinate the possibilities for implementing the project.

In following meetings it went on suggesting the idea enthusiastically, despite the economic opportunities were so limited that prevented lead the company forward. In spite of that, on 16th of April 1925 the Board came to propose the appointment of a Director of the proposed review, who, at the same time, could act as Deputy Secretary of the Association, and in the meeting held a few days later, on 23th of April 1925, it was agreed to appoint a colleague who should act on both charges, falling appointment - during the Board of Directors on 23th of June of the same year - in D. Jesus A. Figuera, associate professor of Industrial Engineering School of Bilbao, under certain conditions and bases for that purpose, that at the same meeting were accepted by Figuera.

Diligently the new Director began to plan the magazine on both the economic and technique, after consultation with Vizcaya Industry, to investigate the financial support provided to the alleged publication, either by donations, advertising and subscriptions: it would be the income to cope with all the expenses of the issue, that predicted the new director. He also found and invited the most prominent colleagues in the profession to offer their cooperation in the technical contents of the Journal.

Organization

In Board of Directors, held on 3rd of November of that year was a breakthrough for the organization, the first committee of the Journal was appointed , consisting of partners: Jesus A. Figuera, Director, Andres BengoaPedro Berroya and Nilo Ortiz, by the Board, José Ricardo de Zubiría, Mario Martinez Ruiz de la Escalera and Pedro Mendizabal, under the Partners. On 10th of November the edition of the Journal was claimed and in the same Board the advertising Circular was approved, even the greetings, that should appear in the first issue, were read and completed.

As shown, until the economic side it was saved, its success without bargaining and no more considering that DYNA without capital, but always with the aim of providing a service and not being a business.

It appeared the February and an obituary on him extremely painful for all partners and more for the Journal. Its director, Jesus A. Figuera, died on 18th of that month and he could only pick up and savor the success of his tremendous and marvelous job in the first issue published. Celebrating its 75th Anniversary, we bring to these pages the memory of those who, for love of the profession and the Association assumed responsibility for launching our magazine. Their faith, their worth, their efforts, all they could. DYNA was done, but its director just could see the first issue ...
